Drainage Installation for Long Island Properties

French Drains, Dry Wells and Yard Drainage

Most drainage problems look the same from the lawn: water pools where it should not, the ground stays soft for days, and over a few seasons it starts to affect patios, foundations and planting. What differs is where the water is coming from and where it can reasonably go, and that is what decides which solution fits.

A French drain moves water away along a buried perforated pipe set in gravel. A dry well gives collected water somewhere to disperse underground instead of across the surface. Catch basins and channel drains collect water at the point it gathers — the bottom of a driveway, a patio edge, a low corner of the yard. Underground gutter diversions take roof runoff away from the foundation rather than releasing it beside the house.

We also install exterior washing machine dry wells and custom drainage where a property does not fit a standard approach. Residential and commercial, across Long Island.

How a Drainage System Is Built

The Parts That Decide Whether It Lasts

A drainage run is only as good as what gets buried with it. The perforated pipe carries the water, but the gravel packed around it is what lets water reach the pipe in the first place, and the filter fabric is what stops soil washing into that gravel and silting the run up over a few seasons. Fall matters as much as materials: pipe laid flat holds water instead of moving it, so the depth at each end is worked out before anything goes into the ground. Where the run discharges is settled at the same time, because water taken off one part of a property has to arrive somewhere that can take it.

Roof Runoff and Gutter Diversions

Where the Water Off Your Roof Ends Up

A roof sheds a great deal of water in a storm, and most downspouts release it a foot or two from the wall. That is the water that keeps the ground beside the house soft, works its way into basements, and undermines patios and walkways laid alongside. An underground gutter diversion connects the downspout to buried pipe and carries that runoff well clear of the foundation — to a dry well, a catch basin, or a discharge point further down the grade, depending on what the property allows. We install exterior washing machine dry wells on the same principle, taking greywater away from the wall instead of letting it soak in beside it.

A French drain is a buried perforated pipe set in gravel that carries water away from where it collects. It suits properties where water pools in a particular area and there is somewhere sensible to move it to.
A dry well gives collected water somewhere to disperse underground rather than running across the surface. It is often used where there is no good route to carry water away.
